Photographed on Dec. 23, 1944, but not published in LIFE until June 1945. Behind a cell block, German prisoners are bound to stakes by MPs. Tried and convicted as spies, they are about to be executed. These POW spies are taken prisoner during the Battle of the Bulge, the last counter-offensive of Nazi Germany (Von Runstedt Offensive).
